Nineteenth Century Black History Lecture

(New River Community College Auditorium)

 

“1862 THROUGH THE EYES OF BLACK LEADERS OF THE DAY”

 

The public is invited to hear a presentation by Frederick Douglass and Martin Delany who were contemporaries and colleagues in the publication of the black newspaper, North Star. Hear about their respective and collective roles during the Civil War.
[Reception to follow where the public can meet and chat with presenters]
(This presentation will be filmed by the Media Services Department of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.)

Dr. J. Holmes Armstead, Jr. returns for a First Person impression of Martin Delany

“1862 THROUGH THE EYES OF THE GENERALS”

 

Various generals who would later become famous in the history books, tell in their own words what the United States was like in 1862 – the political climate, their decision to either stay with the Union or to fight for the South

and their involvement in the War in 1862.

"The Misunderstood 'Stonewall' Jackson"

(New River Community College Auditorium)

Steven Cassle returns to Lewisburg as Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Mr. Cassle has portrayed Gen. Jackson since 1998. His depiction of General Jackson is considered to be one of the most authentic and educational presentations currently offered in the United States.

Ladies Tea at the General Lewis Inn. -- period attire is encouraged, but not required.
(Sorry! No transportation is available for the ladies this year from camp to the Inn)

Dr. Mary Edwards Walker - The Original New Woman of the Civil War.

(New River Community College Auditorium)

West Virginia?s own Debra Conner of Parkersburg, WV, will portray Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, the only woman to serve as a Union Army physician and the only woman to ever receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Join us to learn more about Dr. Mary Edwards Walker and her role in Civil War medicine

Ladies of the Evening
Back by popular demand, the ?Ladies? will make their first evening appearance at 8:00 PM at the Irish Pub in downtown Lewisburg. Officers get out your chocolate gold coins! The ladies will arrive in camp at 8:30 PM.

Battle of Lewisburg

(Washington Street)

 

After the battle the wounded will be taken by a period ambulance back to the medical tent where there will be demonstrations of bandaging, operations and general care of the wounded.

 

 

 

 

 

For the Third Consecutive Year

 

Military camp and Medical stations will be open for the public.

 

 

Visitors will be able to interact with reenactors, ask questions and witness demonstrations.

 

 

The Andrew Lewis Fife and Drum Corps will play throughout the weekend.

 

 

North House Museum will host free tours.
